Maternal Health Awareness Day

Today is Maternal Health Awareness Day which raises awareness of maternal health, safety and mortality.

Here’s what you can do to help protect and advocate for yourself and others:
- Raise awareness around the stats related to Maternal Health. Here in the US, we are the only developed country with a rising mortality rate — and 80% of maternal deaths are preventable (CDC).
- Learn more about racial inequalities around maternal health. According to the CDC, Black mothers are 2 to 3x more likely to die than white mothers due to pregnancy or childbirth-related causes.
- Support initiatives and funding for increased maternal health research.
- Be an advocate for yourself: speak up when something doesn’t feel right, voice your concerns and ask questions to your providers.
- Be an active participant in your prenatal and postpartum care. Make a plan for postpartum support.
- Support paid leave for parents.
